I agree 100% LED is the way to go. They are more efficient than fluorescent lights, do no emit as much if any harmful electromagnetic radiation, and do not contain mercury. Mercury is a deadly poison HELLO PEOPLE Reply to: GrammyJo I didn't know until now that it HAD been signed (to ban incandescent bulbs in 2012) and certainly didn't know that Bush signed it!! Of all the stupid things in the world to do, this has to be at the top of the list! And I'm assuming the reasoning for this is for the sake of the PLANET, right? Is it because regular bulbs use too much electricity? OK...let's replace them with bulbs full of MERCURY, that makes a WORLD of sense.
Well surprise SURPRISE...yet another politically correct move to placate the insane climate change lunatics. We (my hubby and I) will start buying up ALL the 'normal' bulbs we can manage to store starting now! I guess then we can dole out a few at a time when the time comes take them out of stores.
The only 'decent' lighting I can think of to replace incandescent bulbs would be LED’s. They burn VERY bright on very little power. But to force mercury laden bulbs instead is just insane. In fact worrying about LIGHT BULBS is CRAZY in the first place. The ignorance of our government never ceases to amaze me…
SHOULD INCANDESCENTS BE BANNED?

A Better Mousetrap

When a better light bulb is invented that is a better price value, the present light bulbs will die.
Congress should support the developement of a better product that the public will voluntarlly buy.

Halogen burns EXTREMELY HOT. I can't see them being practical or safe for use in lamps at all. WAIT! Maybe the bureaucrats will ban lamp shades.
Thank goodness......PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

"Whenever the government gets involved . . . "
lwe6576, if you don't like America, then find another place to live. We, citizens, are the government. It is not independent of you unless you allow yourself to be a victim. Being a victim is easier, psychologically, but you don't contribute to society with the power in life God gave you.
The government can be good and it must be good and it takes citizens to make it good. Reply to: lwe6576 I totally agree with you. Whenever the government gets involved it can't be good.

Melvin, Your seeing a conspiracy here hobbles you from making any sort of rational comment. There are plenty of countervailing forces in our politics to keep gasoline powered vehicles on the road for a long while. Reply to: Melvin Practice If you take away the right to use incandescent light bulbs, then does the government have the right to prohibit the gasoline engine? What I see is a limit of choice and a safegard for tyranny. Electric cars can only go so far, and the technology for hydrogen as a fuel is still far away. So what is to say that the government prohibit gasoline engines and limit your freedom of movement in the lower 48?. No, let people have the choice to make up their own minds, and keep this tyranical government out of our lives.
