What do you think of new federal attempts to regulate food growing?

	They're vitally necessary for public health
	They're needed if we're going to have safe, standardized produce
	The government has been regulating for years, so these are nothing new
	These bills need more public scrutiny and debate
	I didn't like the idea at first, but now it's growing on me
	They're a ploy to push to small farmers out of business without actually making them illegal
	The major support from agribusiness adds to my suspicion this is intended to squash small farms
	Where are the thousands of food-poisoning deaths that manifest the need for such regulation?
	This is the same government that allows the import of unsafe, contaminated products from China
	Maybe we need a tea party for this issue as well
	I'm going out to get my organic seeds right now
	Is there anything the government doesn't want to control?
	The government obviously wants to control the population by controlling the food supply

Control the Food

Kissinger said: "Control the food and you have control of the population." Other dictators have said and done the same. They picked up all the stored food in Russia at gunpoint. Hitler did the same. Obamination is a Marxist, as it much of congress, and they will do whatever they can to have total control of the food supply.

We should send them all for a looooong swim in the Atlantic with no way to get back.

So you want the government to control food production? Did you even read the article of discussion here? So you want the government to control your healthcare? My healthcare costs did not increase 70% last year. Did yours?
Did I say NO regulation free market? Greed and abuse generaly gets exposed and the free market will guide customers elsewhere. History proves this, if you take some time to study it. I get so SICK of people touting the "all for one and one for all" communist agenda as the ultimate solution to any problem. The premise has been proven wrong over and over. Until this country understands that, as a nation we are doomed to the trash heap of "has been" societies.

So you want food costs to go up 70% in a year just like healthcare has? Free market healthcare is helping bankrupt us, one family at a time. Free markets without some form of regulation always leads to greed and abuse. History proves this, if you take some time to study it. I get so sick of people touting free markets as the ultimate solution to any problem. The premise has been proven wrong over and over. Until we understand that, we are doomed to repeating this sad mistake over and over.

The federal government wants to be able to tell us whether or not we can have a backyard garden and grow our own food and fine us if we do and yet on the news a couple of days ago I hear obama's wife is talking about putting in a garden at the White House. First obama does not have to prove he is a natural born citizen and now his wife does not have to obey the rules and regulations the rest of us may be forced to obey. Sounding more and more like a dictatorship to me.

Just a note to let you know that Calif. irrigation was NOT turned off just because of the draught, that is what the MSM wants you to know. The real reason is because a bunch of inviermentalist and tree hugging greenies, Polosie, Fienstine, Boxer and the likes want to save a little bitty fish that does Not get any bigger that 2 inches long. This fish has absolutly no use and can't feed anyone, but they have to save it. So let the people starve, that is the New addminastrations way to make the USA a sociolist country under the New World Order God Help the USA.
Remember take the land have control of the people, Have control of the food control the people, control the people by the government and you have communisum.

When my husband was getting his Masters degree in the 1970s
his school brooks clearly stated that the US farmland was so large and fertile that we could actually grow enough food in this country to feed the world (at that time). Why can't we feed the current population of the US now? I am eating blueberries & avacados from Chili. I just read where the farmers in California have had their irrigation water turned off by the state because of the draught. I have an idea. The Mississippi River floods every spring.
Why don't be build a large pipeline from the Mississippi to the Colorado River?

Well, maybe Dylan swallowed the mush of the "new messiah" - or got drunk with the kool-aid of "change".

From that same passage you mention - "They used to grow food in Kansas Now they want to grow it on the moon and eat it raw."

"I can see the day coming when even your home garden
Is gonna be against the law."

This silly woman and her Democratic sidekicks have it backwards - the food producers in America, from the backyard to the stockyard, should be supported and cheered on - give our own farmers the freedom they need to feed America.

Let the rest of the world feed their own. We should grow and distribute our own foods, from our own soil, to feed our own people. Maybe then we could get back to simply giving charity to foreign countries, not using them for cheap hire.

I remember in 1983 Bob Dylan recorded a song called "Union Sundown" and one of the lines goes:

"I can see the day coming when even your home garden,
Is gonna be against the law"

How prophetic those lyrics can be, even though Dylan endorsed Obama for President last year.

Genetically modified foods are poisoning us right now. The farther the people are from their food supply the less healthy they will be. Only locally grown, organically grown, and sustainably grown foods will protect us from the predatory greed of corporations like Monsanto, ADM, Tyson, etc. There is a reason why the organic foods market is growing at 20% a year. People are getting sick and tired of being poisoned by corporate agribusiness.

It's simple, really. Once all food production is concentrated in the hands of a few corporations, what do you think will happen to prices? They will charge whatever they like and those who can't pay will, starve.

Well, how do you explain the fact that small family farms have been disappearing and FDA regulations have been increasing for about 90 years yet the relative cost of food has dropped considerably? Larger farms and cooperatives are far more efficient. Genetically modified grains and foods have helped considerably - keeping the USA as suppliers of food for a large portion of the world.

You are eating blueberries and avocados from Chili at this time of year because the weather down there is warm right now and they are ripe. Later this year you'll get them from California. Fresher and cheaper and tastier.
The irrigation water has been reduced, not shut off in CA. Big difference! Building a pipeline for water from Miss to the Colorado River is not practical, water is heavy and it would cost quite a bit to move it 1000 miles for a season. And it wold destroy the ecosystems of both.
We DO feed quite a bit of the world - it is a chief export. Staples such as corn, soy and grain are harvested in excess in the USA. And we have done that by encouraging huge efficient farms. And that is managed and enforced by federal regulations.
