Why don't we all just get reparations?!?
Posted by lovetheusa on Aug 08, 2008 12:52

This is further proof of Obama's hate American, hate whitey campaign. Since he supports reparations I'd like to know when mine will be coming. I had two ancesters who died in the Civil War fighting for thr freedom of blacks from slavery. I also had an ancestor die fighting in the Revolutionary War -- should I contact the British for my reparations? It's ridiculous. Never has any one group perfected the role of victimhood as well as those in the black community. This nation will never move forward with this type of thinking, but then again, the more I learn and think about it, I believe that is by design -- divide and conquer.

My guess would be that the only accurate source would be one that you agree with.

I'm sorry but Grant almost certainly did NOT make that quote. It was printed in something called "The Democratic Speaker's Handbook" and published in 1868. If you read the thing it is definitely an election smear tool to discredit Grant and the Republicans. Both sides engaged in this sort of thing. The book itself is on Google books and the story with the quote is on page 33. It doesn't pass the smell test.

Interestingly enough, the supposed "quote" was publicized primarily by two "Lost Causers" George Edmunds (really Elizabeth Avery Meriwether)the wife of an officer on Forrest's staff and Mildred Lewis Rutherford a relative of Howell Cobb. Pardon me if I don't consider them as accurate sources.

Absolutely true!!! It's a great book too, though your stomach will turn while reading it, to realize the lies that have been accepted as truth all these years.

That's why I referred to the war in an earlier post as the "war against the south".

In fact, something I forgot to mention makes a VERY valid point against reparations... Many BLACKS owned slaves both in the north and in the south. How would they be able to confirm that reparations weren't being paid to the slaveholding blacks' descendants?

Slavery was, is, and always will be, wrong. But forcing the taxpayers of today, who never owned a single slave in their lives (and would in fact have to INCLUDE all tax paying blacks as well, now wouldn't it?), to pay reparations to blacks, who were never "owned" by a white man one day in their life, IS SLAVERY!!! The government would be forcing us to work and give up the money we earn to give it to someone who didn't earn it. Wait, that sounds a lot like the welfare system, doesn't it?

What America doesn't understand is that tax-payers are the slaves now. Someday they'll wake up, I hope.

Reparations

The only reparations for slavery that I would support would be an apology, a small amount of money and a one-way ticket to anywhere in Africa in exchange for permanently renouncing your American citizenship. If you think this country is so bad, we're sorry we brought your ancestors here, here's some cash and your ticket back to Africa, good bye.

Kevin, You say that you are a university professor and have a Phd. I am impressed by that but do you have any common sense? Don't use an edited news clip as proof. Listen to what the man says. I have.

Stop defending Democrats!

I am against reparations.
I think that only Democrats should pay reparations, because they were the ones who supported slavery.
I am fed up with all you Civil-War-history revisionists who keep defending DEMOCRAT slaveholders.

done!

we have done that with both Natives and Blacks. They have received free benefits for every thing we can upt to now and we were not to blame. Our forefathers took their land and we have given them a way to earn money both with lands and gambling. Free higher education included.
plus they were given repartions if they were native Indians.
the blacks were given free higher education, position advancement in companies through the United States...plus many other benefits such as subsidized housing, and help finacially. We can only do so much, now it is up to them.
